Hi All,
My wife and a family friend recently had the return leg of their flight from Bristol to Aberdeen cancelled. The carrier was BMI baby. They were given no help by BMI baby, who constantly stated that as they were a no-frills carrier, they are under no obligation to help! They were basically told to go away and come back the next day.
I have done a bit of research online and as I suspected, this is complete rubbish. The compensation rules do not differentiate between no-frills and regualr airlines. They were given a generic letter saying the cancellation was due to "unforseen events", this seems like a con to me. The airline is well aware that the compensation rules do not apply for the likes of lightening strikes, bad weather etc. I have tried to contact the airline to get them to give me the exact reason for the delay, they have basically refused. They just keep stating it was an "unforseen event". Has anyone else recently been in this situation, as I' a bit lost how to proceed?
If in fact the flight was cancelled for a good reason, I have no problem. But it seems like there was only a handfull of passengers for a rather large plane, which makes me think they canned it due to a lack of passengers.
