Hi,

Just wondering why most people who use a multi monitor setup, normally have a screen dead centre, then 2 screens at the side? The 737 cockpit for example, has a design similar to this..

I would have thought 2x 29" ultrawide slightly angled in for the front and then 2x 24" monitors for the side would look far more realistic?

Also, if i was to do that, how would i get it so the 24" monitors would show the true aspect of how it would look if i was sat in a plane?

Matt

because youre sat in front of a bezel

when I had 3 monitors I found I wouldn't look at the side screens and would just look dead centre as normal. but for flight sims I can see it being good for having instruments and flight plans or whatnot on the side screens.

Which is how it would be in real life in a plane? The bezel just replicates the window frame.

Personally the bezel divide down the middle (however small with most monitors these days) would irritate me, especially when you're on approach etc. In a real plane you'd sit to the side and not have it straight down the middle obstructing your view

You know, ive never thought about it that way. :D

Not really since the cockpit has a left and a right seat for the captain and first officer. Nobody is sitting dead centre with their immediate view restricted by a pillar in dead centre of vision. Obviously you could try and mimic this and have your seat positioned to left, but would be a pretty poor use of space.

I have a feeling that VR headsets are going to make these multi monitor setups quite redundant in near future. Although viewing real life controls (keyboard) may prove a problem, although HOTAS should solve some of that, but impossible to map every control to a flight stick.

Clickable cockpits. I've actually thoroughly enjoyed learning where everything is in DCS. Looking at a keyboard is old hat ;)

FlyInside for FSX/P3D with a Leap Motion and your favourite VR headset and you can wave your hands around and interact with the 3D cockpit without leaving VR in anyway
