Hi guys,

been looking round these forums a bit now and can't find a dedicated thread for flight sim addons so here it is.

I have recently got the FS2004 installed again and got a lot of addons set up.

Think this would be a good place to discuss FS9 and FSX addons and a thread for addon advice and configurations etc.

My own setup:

I run FS2004 on one PC and then run my utilities in a Virtual machine on XP with the following addons using WideFS:

-Squawkbox for online flying
-Activesky Weather
-FSBuild
-FSCommander
-Live ATC Chatter

I only tried Widefs recently and it really is a great job. Saves having to run all the utilities on the background in the FS2004 machine.

My aircraft addons include the new Fokker 100, PMDG fleet and the Level-D 767.

I usually fly online a bit on vatsim which is just amazing. I set up flights with real world weather, load the aircraft using a load manager, import the data into fsbuild and generate a flightplan. From here then I can load the FMC with actual wind data included. It really is so realistic.

Any other addons utilities worth adding?

Hope this thread can take off as the official addon thread so that simmers can share their info.

Scenery wise, I love Emma Field and back in the day when it was released for FS2002 it was very good scenery. I believe they've released a version for FS9/2004 too.

You might want to take a look at ProjectAi aswell. Some of there traffic packages are very good, plus they are free :)

Forgot to put in about the AI stuff - have project ai installed. It is very good. I just am not a fan of the other big ai traffic packages. I always found that you get so many go-arounds due to the slow performance of the ai traffic. Project ai seems a much better solution.

Is there any way where you can make up your own timetables and add your own callsigns?

What about atc addons? I have looked at radar contact 4 but never bought it. There used to be editvoicepack for fs2002 but not sure what this addon does really.

Thanks for the info - vatsim really is the business but you need to be sat at the pc for the duration usually. I often let it run for a while while crusing and do other things.

FlightSim.com is a great site.

I'd love to be up and running with fsx but my machine just isn't quick enough.

Some collection of addons there. I'm just in the process of setting up all my utilities on one machine and then connecting them to FS9 box using WideFS. Is it the same process for FSX? I am looking at getting a new windows box or else a mac pro and would like to be able to run FSX on it.

Guys, just a new addition to this thread is VRoute. A great tool that incorporates flight plan building, export facility, online vatsim info and the ability to automatically log flight plans straight to vatsim - very very handy!

Never tried FSPassengers but it sounds good. I prefer flying online mostly with good atc on vatsim. Live chatter is all I need which is very good little app.

I would love to fly on vatsim, but I feel like I may mess up and end up crashing into someone :p

I started off a good few years back and there were so many apps you need to run and my pc always crashed so i got fed up with it. Now you only need one app (squawkbox). You are expected to be able to fly reasonably well but once you file a flightplan then put in the comments box that you are new and they will all go easy on you.

You can fly really by the book using approach and departure procedures but you need a good aircraft with an FMC to do this.

FSBuild and Vroute are great apps for flight planning. I use real world weather on vatsim too so it really is so realistic.
