hi, guys i know this might be in the wrong section so please forgive me,

im just wondering what kind of fps you are getting with flight simulator x with full traffic, rex utx ,gtx and a payawre aircraft let say at heathrow uk 200 scenery. and what system do you guys have many thank.

Far too general of a question. FPS vary so much in FSX. My system is a little old now (sig) but I get around 25-30 fps during VFR in a decent payware model, Orbx (PNW), REX 2.0, 50% air traffic for example. FSX is all about CPU power and overclocking the nuts off it. It also depends so much care and time you've taken to tweak it and really get the most out of your hardware.

hi i have currently got a i5 2500k hd 6870 and with 50 percent ai aersoft frnkfurst and rex utx and gex i get about 25-30 on ground hmm and you get the same , iv done a lot of tweaks .

Running on an old Q6600, 8GB RAM + REX Overdrive, UTX, GEX and Airbus X. I'll be lucky to hit 20FPS :(
Since FSX is pretty dominant on CPU power I'd imagine a 2500K won't do too bad.

hi im currently flying the airbus x on ymsystem with 20-25 fps on heathrow with full traffic and rex got 4gb ram i52500k @ 4.2ghz

If you can increase the amount of RAM it's worth doing. Although FSX is only a 32-bit programme (which means it won't use more than 4GB) if you do have more, then Windows won't eat into that 4GB set aside for FSX.

You could get a decent aftermarket cooler and try overclocking your i5-2500K a bit more. Most will do 4.5GHz without too much trouble unless you're unlucky and if you have a good cooler and a decent CPU you can push for 4.8GHz.

A major killer in fsx is traffic so full traffic is really hurting your system. I very rarely tend to have it any more than 29% (all air traffic) and nil for road vechiles when flying in an out of payware airports like Frankfurt etc.

Have you been through the FSX tweaking guide by NickN?

Edit.

Also head over to the dedicated FSX thread in "PC Games forum" loads of really knowledgeable guys in there.

I have a new build on the way so I'll let you know what performance I get. Got the i7 processor at 4.8ghz. I'm hoping with fsx being dependant on the CPU. This should give better fps. Take a look at Prepar3D which is being developed by Lockheed Martin. It uses the same Microsoft ESP coding but should iron out much of the bottlenecks an quirks fsx has in time.

hi,

i am the unlciky one bacsue i cannot get myn past 4.2 ( thats with vcore on auto) lol any help would be nice if somebody could tell me how. and yes i have the hyper 212 cooler. and i hope your fsx runs well

AFAIR there's no noticeable difference beyond 3.8-3.9 GHz on SandyBridge CPU with HT off, so your 4.2 is quite fine for FSX. BTW, don't you play newest Micro$oft Flight ? ;)

hi there,

i do not play the new flight simulator, cuase its simply not a simulator its a arcade game for people who just like to play once in a while fsx will and always will be the best simulator around for years unless something happens.

FSX should fly with your setup. ;) Remember though that hyperthreading isn't utilized by FSX (not in my experience anyway with an i7 920) and I get better fps with 4.3GHz (HT disabled) than 4.0 (HT enabled) so by disabling it you may be able to overclock just that bit more to give better results. As for Prepar3D, it's still very expensive and if you have a lot of payware addons not many are supported just yet. From reading around various sim forums, it's still in it's infancy and most users are sticking with fsx as their not seeing much of a difference in performance/eye candy etc.

There are loads of guides around and if you've managed 4.2GHz with at stock voltages then I'm sure with a bit more juice you should easily be getting upto 4.5-4.6GHz. Also, your cooler is fine, SB tends to run pretty cool anyway but make sure you monitor it when stress testing your overclock.

Agreed, Microsoft Flight is a joke. Stay well away from it!:(

Hi,

Is it possible if you may tell me how to oc based on your experience,
Many thanks.

I wonder how the ivy bridges are doing with fsx. Hmmm…

Agree with the above. Prepar3d does offer an academic licence which is significantly cheaper than they were previously charging users. I agree there is a lot to be done to develop the sim, a lot of the original Aces team are working for Lockheed Martin so give it time and I believe this will be the way forward.

I can't imagine the IB would be a significant improvement over an i5-2500k esp when overclocked. Seems that some people are struggling with their IB overclocking due to overheating too.

Here's a good beginners guide to overclocking an i5-2500k. link.

I'm actually a little torn and not convinced about P3D. I'm glad their trying to improve fsx over the disaster that was MS Flight but I'm not so sure that what is essentially patching fsx is the way to go. FSX was atrociously coded, very poorly optimized and had a huge number of bugs. I think they need to start from scratch and build a simulator that can fully make use of modern hardware be it a professional training resource and cut down version for end users & the public.
