Flog it/RMA it?

With my new 280 winging it's way to me (will citylink be delivering today or did they do no pickups on the BH?), I am now faced with a dilema regarding my BFG8800GTXoc2.

Basically, when I last rebuilt my machine following a mobo failure, for some reason I plugged the DVI lead into the other port from which I normally use.

Purple screen. No amount of wiggling of the port produced even a flicker of a hint of any evidence that the green leg of the signal was there, also no visible bad solder tags on socket, so I'm thinking it's either a broken pin receiver on the inside of the DVI port (can't see how though, this was the first time I'd plugged into it), or an actual electrical fault.

The choice is........

Do I flog it on the cheap to some needy soul with a single monitor on the MM?
Or
Do I RMA the thing to BFG, get a shiny reconditioned one and then keep/flog that one.

The card's been in and out of a few slots in it's day, so the edge connector looks a bit worn, they wouldn't refuse an RMA for that would they?

Give me the card, I will take the problem off your hands :)

Seriously though I would be interested in the card if you were to sell on as I only use single monitor.

LOL.... I just KNEW as soon as I hit the post button, that some chancer would be straight in there with that response ;)
Still, at least you didn't suggest it's worth a fiver, maximum :D

It's one of the odd things about my brain.....often questions wrack me for days, but the moment I ask some third party, the answer comes to me, whether it's solving an irritating hardware/software problem, or as in this case trying to make me mind up.

I'm definitely coming down on the side of RMA'ing it.....lifetime guarantee being part of why I paid so much for the thing, and it's only 6 months old.
My only concern is what I'll get back, I'd imagine 8800GTX's are getting thin on the ground, especially the OC2's (which one would assume were made in relatively limited numbers), and it appears most of the cards NV have come up with between this beastie and the GTX2n0's are, well, slower.

With a fault such as this, assuming they actually have techies and not rent-a-plebs at their RMA base, they could always just fix mine and send it back, I'm not fussed, I'll have a 280 soon, so I'm not out to scam meself an upgrade ;)

Tell yer what tho, Bloody, if I DO end up floggin it, I'll make sure and point you in the direction of the MM at the appropriate time.

Thanks. Wasnt looking for a handout, I have been thinking about upgrading and an GTX would be a big jump for me. So keep me in touch. My email is in trust.

Hope they dont upgrade it too much as I dont have too much money lol

Best of luck with the RMA tho. More than likely get something like a 9800gtx I would have thought with that or x2, I would be surprised if you got a 280

BFG are great with RMAs. I sold my 6800 Ultra to my mate and he broke it. He got it RMAd for free and got a nice new one back. It's better that you RMA it and sell it, than someone else do it ;)

Actually, just thinking, if its only 6 months old then you should be able to return it to where you bought it from. I think that applies to all warrenties within a year if im not mistaken.

BFG have a new registering system with their lifetime warrenty now if you bought after 21st Feb this year you have to register within 3months or so you dont get your 10 years.

Would rather deal with BFG directly I think, place I got this from messed me about with it a lot, so not giving them a second chance. Was the last time I bought anything but sundries from anywhere but OC.

Have registered the card with them I think, although when I forwarded my proof of purchase I got no acknowledgement....still have the barcode from the box though, in both physical and jpg form ;)
