I'm looking to upgrade my shuttle SN95G5 V2, which has a x800xt pe graphics card and an athlon64 3500, with the following -

Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB (AGP) - Retail £129.99
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ (Socket 939) - OEM £124.99

Sub Total : £254.98
Vat : £46.02
Total : £309.00

Just a couple of questions really.
1. I,m unsure about the processor compatability. (if not, what is the next best thing.)

2. Do you think it's worth upgrading from my current setup or waiting till I can afford a new system in about 10 months time.

I'm a game's addict on a budget, now playing coh, x3 and oblivion.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.

Before my first post I did a quick search of shuttle's global site for cpu compatability, it just kept giving me server errors when I clicked on the relevent links.

With a bit more effort I've just found the information on shuttle's european site and it shows all current x2 cpu's are ok.

As for the res it's 1680 x 1050 native, I was about to check the gpu and cpu comparison charts at tomshardware but found this interesting article also, http://tomshardware.co.uk/2007/01/10/agp-platform-analysis-uk/

It appears the upgrade will, as you say, give a nice performance boost and it's a lot cheaper than changing my system at this moment in time especially as the next step up the ladder is all new tech at such a premium.

Now where's my wallet.

cheers.

Thanks for the input, but i seem to have jumped the gun a bit as per my new post in the general forum - Major pc problems - please advise. Oh well i may end up just scrapping the shuttle and doing a new build.

Thanks again.

Good news - i found a workaround from another forum where some guys have had the same problem, i've replaced my ps2 keyboard with a usb and i use a powered usb hub to connect my mouse and keyboard.
But i must unplug when booting and re-connect when windows has started.
The shuttle ran great for days using the above method so i went ahead with the upgrade and all is fine.

I'm very happy with the perfomance increase in games, i wonder if i'd see much more if i upgraded my memory from 1gb to 2gb ?

cheers.
