Does anyone have any experience of selling a car for scrap, or spares/repairs?

Decided to shift the old banger as the gearbox has a fault, and I don't really want to throw money at it, but it still drives and could probably do someone some good - so popped it on eBay.... only to be hit with a bloke from Liverpool call me seconds after the listing went live (now removed my number!), clearly a time waster who was talking about hiring a tow truck etc etc... fully expected the good ol' paying a third party courier rubbish.

Anyway, I got an offer via eBay and stupidly accepted it before looking at the bidder - sure enough, there was a load of feedback from car sellers about getting ghosted, no shows, etc - so I cancelled the order, and re-listed.... had to speak to eBay customer services as they wanted to charge me £20 for that cancelled listing!! I have since got a message from the scammer/time waster asking why I cancelled, followed by another time wasting offer (rejected this time!)

I'm wondering if I should just drive it to a scrappy to sell it - but a local quote came back with £260, which seems like not a lot, and I suspect they are a middle man service; so taking a cut themselves. Was hoping for maybe £500 - as I'm having the Wife's Range Rover, so that will cover the insurance for that.

Facebook marketplace I think is the best place for things like this. Be prepared for plenty of time wasters but you've probably more chance of getting the £500 you want

Might ask the Wife to stick it on as I don't have FB, but worth a punt.

I had it in the back of my mind eBay was going to be a cesspool lol

I sold one like that on eBay , listed it as siares and repairs gave full honest information, got £400 cash no issues.

If it drives try we buy any car.
Yeah, tried them and motorway - both requested the gearbox fault to be investigated and a cost of repairs given; so told them both I'm not willing to pay for investigation work
