The MOT lapsed in December and it has a private plate. This means I can't transfer it off the car and now it wont pass the MOT

Why would it not pass an mot?

The plate is the least of your problems. Without a MOT an insurance company would only normally value the car as salvage.

I meant mechanically. It was an assumption though given that OP hasn't said either way whether the car is still running fine or not.

It was up to the door sills and it was parked. It'll be absolutely fine
