Hi

Has anyone here sanded down and varnished their floorboards? Would you recommend it, or should I just pay my way out of this one?

I want to do the two bedrooms in my flat plus a small box room, both currently carpeted. Rest of the flat (except the bathroom) already has sanded/varnished boards. I suspect they were done maybe 4-6 years ago (before I bought the flat). Would I need to do the entire flat or can I blend the line between areas done and not done?

Cheers

Chris

Its possible to do yourself, i did two front rooms in my victorian semi, although the main living room looks good i rushed the second reception and it looks poor.

I hired the HSS floor sander plus skirting unit, i would say just go with the main floor sander plus a variety of sheets and use a smaller mouse sander for edging.

I would assume there is a threshold between rooms under that carpet.

One last thing, check the wood flooring underneath, it may be they covered it as it was chopped up or looks rubbish.

I used OSMO Oil for protection rather than a varnish. I believe it was amber coloured.

Thanks

No threshold but I could always put something down I suppose.

Did you have any issues blending the tone as you go from one room to the next or did you not need to consider that (ie the next room had tiles for example).

Cheers

Our hallway is carpeted and the two reception rooms are off it, so already had a threshold and actually between rooms there is a wooden threshold under the carpet. Tbh i will probably carpet the poorly done second reception again as it is drafty and i don't think we need another room with bare floorboards.

I'll try to upload pics of it.

Before with carpet
