Have just re-built an older PC and the light on the floppy drive is on constantly. In device manager the drive shows as working correctly. If I put a floppy disk in the drive the PC ask for a blank disk. This PC is running XP Home.

Any help would be welcome.

Yep the end with the twist needs to go into the floppy drive, twist to the left.

Twist to the left isn't right for all drives.
Look at the floppy cable and find the red stripe. That stripe goes to pin 1 on the floppy drive. Pin 1 can be on either side depending on the drive manufacturer. The end of the floppy cable with the twist in should goto the first (A) drive but if the cable only has a connector for 1 drive it doesn't really matter. The red stripe on the motherboard end aloso got to Pin 1

Thanks for that chaps, reversed the cable and its absolutely fine. Cant remember the last time I had to put a floppy dive ion a machine.

I fit about 8 floppy drives a day/6 days a week and everyone I've ever fit has been twist to the left so I think the majority these days are the same.
