That's why they're called memes. It's actually a brilliant functional example of the point Dawkins was making when he coined the phrase in The Selfish Gene. Biological evolution works at such an achingly slow pace that it can be difficult to comprehend, but when you see the same phenomenon at play in social evolution it's a lot easier to take in.

I think it's great. Things like this traverse everything. Languages, ages, religions, cultures, the lot. It doesn't offend anyone and anyone can do it, bit of harmless fun that anyone can enjoy.


Don't get me started on planking or eating tide pods though.
