Taking my son to the doctors today to get the flu vaccine
How many of you guys have recently had your child vaccinated ?

That's what I'm worried about, side effects
He had flu type thing on boxing day for 2 days but after that he was ok
He's fine now, just think it's best to get it done

Quite a few people get a reaction from the flu jab: soreness around the area of injection and/or a feeling similar to a mild headcold for a day or two. More serious reactions happen, of course, but the risk from them is vastly lower than the risk from the flu.

Have many on here got their jab? I don't think I have had one for a very long time, in fact the last time I was ill (other than a slight runny nose) was almost 10 years ago. I can't hep but think I am long overdue :o:p. Are the media making more out of it like they did with swine flu? Come to think of it, I swear my housemate (who used to work for an NHS distribution center) told me they ordered too many winter flu vaccines last year - how are they running out in some areas?

Did any of the people who have died in the UK have any underlining health problems?

the ONLY reason im thinking of getting him done is because, this morning i went to the spar to get some milk and bread, on on the front page of the local paper was a story about a woman who died from swine flu the other day. It was this that got me thinking, no other reason

Don't get sucked into the hype around this years Flu. If they really need it - and you alone think he really needs it (due to existing medical conditions) - then get it. But don't be pressured or start believing the panic surrounding this years flu rubbish.

1.) So far - just 50 people have died in the UK from Flu (45 from Swine Flu) - Less than half in the same period last year.
2.) Theres a good chance the Flu has already peaked - and the vaccine takes 8-10 days to give immunity
3.) The vaccine only gives you a 70-80% chance of not actually getting Swine Flu
4.) On average - 25 - 35 children die every year in the UK from Chicken Pox. Have you ever heard anything about a chicken pox vaccine - and why do doctors say it's such a mild disease that they don't recommend vaccination in the UK ?
5.) Yes, we all know Swine flu is dangerous in under 5's and children.....BUT - There have been only 5 deaths in under 5's so far, 8 in under 14's and 33 deaths in the 15-64 age groups. The vast majority had a previous medical condition anyway.

Is it really that bad ??????

I could go on - but I'm sure if you research some of the reports on it - you can see how much this is getting blown out of proportion.

Only ''at risk'' groups are getting the jab. They have recently decided that pregnant women and the very young should be included in this group as the Swine flu seems to affects them more. Those at risk should have been contacted by thier G.P. and had the injection some months ago.

Yes... Exactly.

"During the 1999 to 2000 winter, seasonal flu deaths reached 21,000 and even during average winters there are normally anywhere between 6,000 to 8,000 deaths"

This year may be one of the mildest on record when all this rubbish stops and they look at the stats.

I remember when 60,000+ people were going to die from swine flu! Some of the hysteria I witnessed from friends and family was laughable.
