Hi All

Was trying to fix the flush this evening, and have managed to snap the red plastic part in the picture. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what the part is, and also if the colour is important - size ? brand ?

Are there different types for different applications, or can I just pick up one from b+q ?

needs to be the same colour afaik the colours determine the boyancy or the size ?, its called a float ball.

just take the snapped off ball with you and ask a member of staff

the red bit still attched to the metal arm (float valve) should just screw off

Exactly this. Should cost no more than a few quid.

btw if you get a ball that's not exactly the same you should be able to adjust a screw on the other side of the float valve that determines how high the arm will lift before the water turns off

Remove the broken bit from shaft
Sandpaper the two parts
Fix with epoxy glue, refit after 24 hours.

This is why you have a pack of epoxy glue in your toolbox?

You have probably sorted it now but these are a great replacement if your ballcock is broken and there is room. Ours were constantly needing to be adjusted, or after a while the water would start to pour out of the overflow. Saw these on screwfix with loads of 5 star reviews so got two and they have been great for the last 3-4 years. Not had to adjust them yet and the water is still exactly on the max marking.

There is also a more expensive version with brass threads, but just be very careful not to cross thread and save a fiver.
