I originally planned to use the title "Why are the English such disgusting pigs?" but decided instead on the blander "Fly-tipping".

Why is it that the English are incapable of getting rid of their rubbish in a civilised, considerate manner? I have visited many countries over the years and it seems only to be in third world countries with no rubbish collection or refuse disposal sites and in England that simply dumping unwanted rubbish is deemed acceptable.

Red Bull, McDonalds, KFC and others should be subjected to a 1% tax on turnover to pay for the collection and disposal of the rubbish that their customers toss away so inconsiderately.

People caught throwing rubbish out of their car or van windows should have their vehicles confiscated and crushed. People caught fly-tipping should have their houses turned into rubbish dumps.

This diatribe largely stemmed from my driving South today to visit relatives and going for a walk and Pub Lunch with them.

I got caught up in a traffic jam on the way and couldn't believe how much rubbish there was in and on the verges - Red Bull cans and McDonalds and KFC wrappers were the most common.

When we went for a walk, in addition to Red Bull cans and McDonalds and KFC wrappers by the roadside, every parking spot or layby had its quota of domestic appliances, household rubbish and building material.

To the list in my OP can be added the morons who feel that trees should be decorated by plastic bags of dog faeces - dog owners are scum and their pets should be converted to feed real pigs.

Littering or flytipping?

The latter is partially caused by councils not allowing vans onto their disposal sites. Why?
I agree 100% about Councils limiting / restricting access to recycling centres. That they then complain about the cost involved in clearing fly-tipped rubbish while the Government (presumably) spends money on advertisements designed to discourage fly-tipping only serves to illustrate how limited is their imagination and the short-term thinking involved in central Government funding cuts - prevention is better than cure.

However, as my first post suggested, I am perhaps more concerned at how selfish, inconsiderate, thoughtless and impolite many people in this country are. Casually discarding your drinks cans and bottles, your food wrappers and your animal faeces is disgusting.

Maybe you should take a bit more time thinking before creating threads then, because that isn't "fly-tipping" which you've put as the thread title.
Still, my thread title got you in here (post edited to avoid giving offence).

Strange behaviour . . .

I would certainly agree that restricting the hours that recycling centres are open makes little sense.

When people end up dumping rubbish by the roadside or down some obscure country lane, someone from the council is likely to have to go out and clear it up. It would seem to make more sense if the recycling centres were to remain open seven days a week and for significantly longer hours - it is not as if they require vast numbers of highly trained staff to tell you to put it "in that skip" or "over there".

Regardless of the opening hours of recycling centres, selfish people in this country still seem predisposed to casually discarding unwanted drinks cans and bottles, food wrappers and animal faeces wherever they fancy rather than taking it home or putting it in a bin.

It would be fascinating to see a Profit and Loss analysis for Councils based on how much they spend on rubbish collection and recycling -vs- how much they spend on clearing up the mess that the general public causes.

I suspect that whilst responding to Central Government cutbacks, the temptation to allow the selfish public to fester in their own filth would win the day :(
