Hello folks,

Coming home with the kids and, partner and the MIL in July 2024. We're going to fly in to Heathrow and looking at a car to get up to the NW and do local day trips etc. for between 3 and 4 weeks of hire. I've been looking at expedia and various rental companies but the prices are astronomical compared to the last time (admittedly 9 years ago so prices will be different)... So, any recommendations of who/what reliable sites I can use to look at booking a car? Looking at something full sized I guess for luggage, either SUV, estate or large cars are fine... not looking at anything exotic, just the best price.

Cheers

Chris

All the usual. Sixt, Hertz, Enterprise, Budget. Personal experience with enterprise is that their fleet is on the older side, but perhaps they give them more to the corporate customer who is paying less IDK.

Not sure where you are coming from in NZ or how long it’s been since you’ve driven in the UK? When I moved back from Australia it was noticeable how much faster, narrower and more aggressive the driving in the UK was, I’d suggest perhaps not overdoing it at the start of your trip!

Thanks, I had heard that using aggregate sites such as expedia provided better qoutes, certainly true when I looked at a location comparison... vast price difference between the car sizes.

I live in Auckland, land of the terrible driving quality where everyone needs to go at 59.99999kmh in urban areas when the speed limit is 50 and safe speed often lower... Last time I was home I found the driving less aggressive than here! Plan is to fly in to heathrow, stay at a hotel on the airport and then drive up north and base around there with the final 4 days or so being in London... What size car is recommended for 3 adults 2 children (11 and 8) plus associated luggage? I think we can get the kids stuff down to small bags and as we will be renting a house we won't need as much in the way of clothes as we can wash stuff.
