Flying to Aus, which airline?

Looks like I'm going to Aus for 2 weeks in June/July and wondered who had flown with who and who was recommended

I'll be going on my own so being able to use my laptop would be nice :)

I flew over in Feb 09 and flew with Malaysian airlines, not only where they the cheapest, there customer service was really good , food was tasty and they were more then generous with the alcohol etc.

Suppose it slightly depends on what city you want to stop over at (highly recommend doing this) Singapore also get thumbs up from me and you might get to fly on one of there big fancy new planes
 
Well my final destination will be near Wollongong, Sydney is about an hours drive from there, so I'm guessing I'll end up in Sydney, hire a car and just drive down. How long is a flight to Aus typically? do you have to stop over? I'm quite a fan of doing it in one slog and just dealing with the Jet lag :p

Where are you going near Wollongong?
It's pretty nice down there (Austinmer, Thirroul and other small towns north of the 'gong).
 
Another vote for Singapore. They were the cheapest but the service was outstanding. We travelled with five kids including a <1 year old and the staff learned every name and stopped by frequently to top them up with snacks and games. A two hour stopover in Changhi Airport was our choice to get it over and done with but there are multiple routes with various stopovers. Above all we wanted to avoid the US because we would have been couped up in a sweaty lounge area for several hours and not permitted to leave.

Singapore, used them a few times and using them again next Friday. Good prices, great service and food. I'm doing a weekend stopover in Singapore to ease the pain.

Thats a brilliant fare. highly recommend SingAir and Malaysia air.

We actually flew Qantas this year, but it was cheapest for us as we wanted to go LHR > SYD > MEL > LHR

First leg was on the new A380 (?) though which was lovely :)

These 2 are the best. DONT fly with Qantas, like i did last year. There seats are terrible and you get hardly any more room than you would on a flight to spain.

Singapore is a definite to be honest, always use them when I go over. If you are heading to the other side of the planet seems a shame not to stop over somewhere whilst you are out that way, Singapore is a great city to spend a couple of days in :)
 
I flew with Emirates. They were alright, the first part of the flight (to Dubai) was better than the second. Legroom on the second part of the flight was pretty bad to be honest. Miles more legroom on Thomas Cook when I went to Vegas.
 
I flew emirates and singapore - was very happy with both, similar level of comfort, entertainment and service.

Singapore stewardesses are hotter though :)

I've not flown long haul with anyone else but I'd really not want any less leg room, less comfy seats or less entertainment. I had a full digital seat back entertainment system - choose from dozens of films, tv series, music, even some basic games (even multiplayer general knowledge with other passengers - I owned first class :p). 12 hours with a book wouldn't cut it.
