ok, so i have got a Gigabyte A55M-S2V, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Case+PSU..... only thing im missing is the CPU. what do people recommend? i have seen you can get some athlon X4 chips for £50ish, so would this and a cheap gfx card be better than an A6/A8?
machine will be used as a media player and web browser.
i might also use it for testing things like linux and that, but thats only a thought.

ok im torn bewteen the A4-3400 (im thinking 2.7GHz dual is going to be better than 2.1GHz tri core but might be wrong) and the A6-3670. at £36 more, is it a lot better? or am i better ditching the mobo and trying to get an AM3+ board and cpu?

The 65W A6-3500 has a much faster IGP than the A4-3400 and also twice the L2 cache per core too. It should be fine for everyday usage IMHO.

You can get the 100W 2.6GHZ Athlon II X4 631 for around £50 to £55 though. You could get a GT440 or something similar as a decode card. Of course, power consumption will be higher and you will need more cooling in the system.
