AMD A10 5800k with FM2 socket A85x chip M/B initial speed tests

Having just assembled a new Gigabyte F2AA85XM-D3H (rev1.0) motherboard with an AMD A10- 5800K apu combined with 2x4Gb cheap Kingston blue hypex 2400 DDR3 under clocked at 2168 from ebay it all seems to work fine. The faster DDR3 memory improves the on-board chip graphics performance by up to 30%.
With an initial apu overclock to 4392.09MhZ (99.82x44.0) amd built-in gpu 1066 it has returned a 3Dmark06 score =10860, 3DMark11 =1920 very satisfactory from a mobile chip all with an x64(pro7) air cooling.

As this motherboard is the cheapest A85x FM2 with AMD APU's appear to be the cheapest $$$ for performace combination saving the intial cost of a separate graphics card :) however I do have a couple of questions.

What's the difference between this m/b rev 1.0 & rev 1.1 listed on Gigabyte web site?
Is it normal that the bios wont let me change the cpu and north bridge voltage? (not that I really needed to for the air cooled overclock)
DVI ouput only works at 640x480 on an older hanns G HW191d monitor that worked fine before with my asus geforce discrete card?

Any clues please?

Not sure but did you ctrl and f1 while in the bios to see the advanced options

It lets me type in a new value but it then strangely reverts back to auto before saving, maybe it's a budjet safety function disabled on this cheaper A85 m/b.
I'll give your suggestion a try in case there is another page to do it. ;)

edit: Nope it won't let me change CPU V or NB core voltages in advanced options, (I can change memory core volts only) the ctrl F1 toggles between 3D Bios & advanced.

Is this a faulty motherboard?

They release new PCB revisions all the time.

Yeah but they don't usually list them separate on thier official gigabyte website 1.1 is listed independantly, until someone else try's it i guess i will not know if its a general fault or just with mine.
(also have no fan speed control with the software they provided.)

Err yes they do, if you go to the product page under the product name you have the other version links to switch between 1.1 & 1.0 same as all of their other boards.

Either way it doesn't explain why mine doesn't work :(
To confuse us even more sales are now listing another black coloured Gigabyte m/b F2A85X-D3H (no M) for a couple of £ more the photo only shows it having 6 sata instead of 8 in the description that 85x chipsets support?
lt must pay to keep customers confused ;)

The photo shows 8, 2 of them are placed seperately and are 90 degree sockets. And it's me that needs new glasses :D

I'm actually interested in that board for my next build so I've studied it a bit. Gonna hang on for the next bios tho

F2A85x-D3H £64 yes i now see them on side, extra pci slot. Buy this one but it may need a slightly bigger ATX case.

F2A85xM-D3H £61 they have swapped the battery & dual bios positions. M=micro ATX size.

I have asked overclockers support & the boss recons it needs an extra graphics card for dvi slot to work with 3 monitor support, perhaps hes not up with accelerated APU's?

thank you for your webnote.

If the system works at stock there is no fault and the motherboard wont support dual monitor setup you would need a graphics card to be able to run two screens.

I have the matx version of this board, the F2A85XM-D3H. This is what the "m" denotes on the product code and as the board is smaller there are 2 less sata ports.

The atx version F2A85XM-D3H also has more pic-e ports etc.

There are other differences - you can find these out if you look. There is a product comparison tool on the gigabyte website.

Is this in windows? Have you got the correct drivers installed? Or is this in the EFI initially.

The board I am using at the moment supports multiple screens, one is plugged in the vga the other via HDMI. having moved it all into a streacom fc9 case yesterday all seems fine and I am very happy with the purchase.

Also this might want to be in the motherboards forum - rather than cpu?

Yes it works with vga / hdmi combined (tested with daughters pink tv) only the dvi doesn't doesn 't work with pnp so it auto intalled as a non-pnp monitor by windows, now ordered another 3x input led 23" monitor upgrade should arrive next week.
This thread would be more appropriate in the motherboard section, in fact I started a thread there after I realised it with a link to here, although some readers might be interested in the very good amd A10 5800k apc out of box low power performance.

The combined CPU & GPU works surprisingly well, air cooled and stable up to ~ 4.4 beyond that it overheats quite fast and seems to auto-throttle core clock to protect itself.
Maybe they will fix the vcore & NB clock in a future bios.
Intel had better watch out the i5 is still around £150 without a motherboard and needs a separate grahics card to rival this chip. lt also runs at lower watts than intel, the quad cores work well and appear to handel prime95 and several other processes with ease.
Overall a good purchase imo.

Looks like an excellent overclock on the GPU core there. Would be interesting to see what 3Dmark performance you get with stock clock and RAM at 1333.

With no over-clock 3DMark06 = 7586 3DMark11 = 1399

Overclocking is relatively strait forward, the 1066 sweet spot appears if you set core/mem 1:1 so having good quality 1T DDR3 memory is essential with a bios sys mem multiplier of 21.33 & advanced bios CPB ratio set to 44 . The only voltage to increase is the core memory to 1.65 volts to obtain stability.
