ok say you had these players what formation do you play. Focus on Midfielders and one one striker or 2 strikers etc? Use wingers? or wingbacks style? (ie 3-5-2 or 5-3-2) i usually play a variation of 4-4-2

GK Reina
LB Marcelo
CB Albiol
CB Digard (or Carragher)
RB Vanden Borre (or Rafinha)

DM Sissoko/Digard/Albiol

AM Gerrard/Celsinho/Aguero/Nani

ML Vicente (paid £35 mill for him) (or Nani paid £20 + 20mill for him)

RM Joaquin (or Pennant/Celsinho)

FW Pazzini

FW Owen

This is the formation i usually play with Liverpool but i want to play my best players in their best positions i.e. play Nani on the left or as attack midfield? Also Celsinho play him as FW AM midfield or right wing?

subs

Crouch, Garcia, Aurelio, Bisson, Carson

im generally happy with the team but i want to help bring on the young players. Also i usually play a short passing slow build up passing down the flanks sort of game.

Yes i had a real problem with celsinho because when i bought him i didnt get a work permit and he wouldnt go on loan to my feeder clubs and no one wanted him on loan. Solved the problem by offering him a new contract and hes eligible to play yay.

I like to play 4-4-2 but with the wingers in attacking positions and with a target man.

Also set one of my CM's to be slightly more defensive than the other. With your squad I'd line up like this:

Reina

LB Marcelo
CB Albiol
CB Carragher
RB Vanden Borre

CM Sissoko (defensive)
CM Gerrard (attacking)
AML Nani
ARM Joaquin

Pazzini and Owen up front sounds good but use Crouch against the lesser teams with Owen coming on late on.

Thats quite similar to what i currently do except i have the wingers in ML and MR positions then have them push up. Also Vicente is consistently one of my star players. (7.48 avg) Not too bothered about the money as long as it practically guarantees good performances.

I almost sold Joaquin 2 seasons ago because he wasnt putting in the performances fitting for the money i pay him (79k week)
But he picked up his game last season and averaged around 7.29 overall.
My new players are Nani and Celsinho so im just thinking how best to play them :)

If i play 2 CM then i miss out on the juiciness of Aguero in AMC role and he has been ultra deadly in that role hrmmmmmm..... and i occasionally play Gerrard on the right when i think Joaquin isnt on form.

One really annoying thing about the south american internationals is that sometimes they are away on international duty during champions league matches. It was either the fa cup final or champs league final im sure i was missing both marcelo and rafinha.

Also its probably obvious but players in your squad get on better with players who they think are really good. Aguero and Pazzini is just about everyone in my squads best buddy

I know what you mean about South American players.

I'd use Aguero, Nani and Celsinho off the bench. I like to start with a solid attacking team and then bring on more attacking player in the 2nd half to finish teams off. :D

yeah true, but their stats are so good that i cant resist playing them. With new guys i like to play them to get an idea of what they can do. (that means giving them 90 minutes)

but yeah Nani and Celsinho will warm the bench. Celsinho is good coz i can use him as a backup striker/winger and midfielder. :D

4-1-2-1-2

GK, Flat back 4 (WBR, CD, SW, WBL), Central DM, 2 central midfielders (AMC or AMR/L,set to make diagonal forward runs), attacking midfielder (am/f), 2 forwards (FC, ST)

My team:

GK: Niceforo (incredible young keeper, only 21yo but I just spent £30m+ Alexis on him)
CB: Gallas
CB: Cannavaro
CB: Woodgate
DM: Vieira
CM: Fabregas
AML: Reyes
AMC: Kaka
AMR: Hleb
FC: Klose
FC: Henry

S1: Gordon
S2: Chico
S3: Michel Scholler
S4: Beckham
S5: D'Allessandro
S6: Riquelme
S7: Saviola

Having an absolute mare of a season this year though, my first 3 seasons I finished in the top3, managed to win a few cups including the CL too. But this year it's into February and I'm in 15th/16th place.

I reckon maybe the AI has sussed my 3-5-2 formation, unfortunately I can't really see a better fit for my personnel. Henry+Klose were the mainstay of my team in the past (one season they scored 97 goals between them) but they keep getting injured, and my experiments with the likes of Totti have not been very successful. Henry is also losing his speed at age 33 so maybe in the long term I will need a new foil for my target man's flick-ons.

One dillema I have is what team instructions to use for this aggressive but narrow formation.... should I be setting a 'wide' width to try and balance things out? Or narrow to focus on their strengths? Then there's the question of how deep to sit the back 3, and wether to tell the two wider ones to make runs out to the flanks (to cope with opposition wingers in the absence of fullbacks).

you lot all seem to be fairly early on in the game with your players, its 2020 on my game, there was no point in posting my lineup cause no one would recognise anyone (except a 32 year old cecs fabragas (sub) and a 35 year old fernando torres (backup))

4-4-2

Make 2 of your winger run up front and 2 of your left and right defender run up to the midfield line. Make your tempo High and play Attacking football.

Personally I would go with a 4-4-2.

Play a wide game with passing foccused down the flanks. Direct passing and a fast tempo. At home at least.

Away the same formation with a slower tempo a deeper back line counter attack maybe. Play more narrow football and press the ball.

Changing your formation for away games will have a negative effect on your team. Its best to try keep to one formation and just alter team instructions, maybe change formation for the odd tough game like Chelsea or Man Utd away.

would look at getting a left back unless you play attacking football, many consider marcelo to be a better left winger than a left back.

i'd try a 4-3-1-2 , use one of u're dm's as the centre of the 3 midfielders, with gerrard/aguero as the 1 behind the front pair.

hangtime:
check the settings and try narrow width with distribution "down both wings", sry cant remember the exact wording but its in team instructions.

If the Marcelo you have is the young Brazillian then he is best suited to the left wing position, and a lot better than Nani.

Well both of them are excellent. Im pretty impressed with both Nani and Celsinho's performances this season esp as a lot of other players are off form this season (pazzini, gerrard, sissoko)

Marcelo is playing excellent as a sorta LB but making forward runs. I like my fullbacks to be more attacking minded.

He gets high ratings as a LB making forward runs though. I dont see him displacing Vicente or Nani in the LM / AML position.

hrmm. 4-3-1-2 ? No wingers then? What do i do with Vicente and Joaquin?

ok so 3 midfielders like

Sissoko
Digard
Albiol ? (he plays great in central defence though)

Dont really have another central or defensive midfielder (apart from Uwe Rettig whos only 17 and on loan to my feeder club ie hes one for the future, apparently hes the new beckanbaur according to his blurb)
I have Gerrard i guess and i have Theo Janssen who has good stats but hasnt performed for me so i'm selling him cheap.

I have been toying with the idea of playing

4-2-3-1

2 central midfielders, 3 attacking midfield / wingers and one lone striker.

Digard & Sissoko ** Vicente/Nani Gerrard/Aguero/Celsinho and Joaquin/Celsinho/Pennant ** Owen/Pazzini
