Bought an Apple TV at the weekend and have been trying to jailbreak it all week and was getting a 'Cannot be verified with Apple' message when restoring it.

I tried everything, then upgraded to 4.3 when I gave in.

I just realised that a few months ago I tweaked the hosts to allow me to JB my iPhone and thats what was causing it.

if you have your plex library on a different mac say a mac mini could ATV have a film streamed to it from the mac mini with the plex app on both the mini and ATV ........ i swear that made sense in my head

I would like to know the same thing. If this is possible I will buy the apple TV also as long as I can stream to it over wifi?

Iam trying to upgrade my ATV2 to the latest build, 4.3.0 (Build 8F305): AppleTV2,1_4.3_8F305_Restore.ipsw but each time I plug into iTunes and restore it downloads the .ispw but then pops up with this message...

the software for the apple tv was corrupted during download

and the processing bar hangs until I press ok.

Ive tried shift, restore but then iTunes is saying the firmware isnt completable, can anyone help?

Running win7.

Jailbreak

Use seas0npass as it gets rid of a potential audio issue in XBMC which the other jailbreaks don't.

You need to update to the firmware that you'll be jailbreaking. So update in itunes then navigate to the folder that contains the firmware file and use Seas0npass on that. For windows 7 it's C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates

Or just search your C drive for a .ipsw file

If you still can't find it or you want to update from a file the below link contains links to all iOS firmwares.

Also note as it took me a while to work this out. When plugging the ATV2 into your PC/Mac via Micro USB cable, don't plug the power cable in. It gets power from the USB.

Install Nito TV (like Cydia)

XBMC

On iOS 4.3 you need to install the nightly builds to get rid of some issues

Use this guide
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=97246

You need to install the official build first however. It's all included in the link.

To SSH on windows, download Putty and type the IP address of the ATV2 on the network. Default login details are User: root, Password: alpine.

I tried holding the shift key while hitting restore and pointing to the ipsw file on my desktop. Unfortunately, that file was downloaded from the same Apple server and comes back as corrupted when trying to load.
