Fn Brightness Keys behaving strangely

Hi Guys,

Recently I've noticed a problem with my Fn minus brightness key on my Sony Vaio Laptop (c series). The volume buttons work fine, but when it comes to using the brightness ones it wont dim it more than one bar. I then have to wait for the menu to disappear, before I can then turn it back up to full brightness, I can then turn it back down a bar, but am back where I started. I can't turn it down any further than 5 out of 6 blocks basically.

Is there any other way to dim my screen? Its running vista. Anybody come accross this sort of problem before? Any idea for solutions I could try?

Thanks for your help guys. Don't know why I didn't think of it but a system restore to the 30th march has solved the problem must have been a windows update or something.
