GF's 2007 Focus 1.6 petrol has recently decided to start stuttering when accelerating, generally 3-4k rpm it jolts back and forth, literally feels like a misfire but the sound doesn't change.

Does it in all gears at any speed.

It has a complete warranty on it (surprisingly it covers literally everything) from the place she bought it, they read the codes and nothing was there, I recommended they changed the coil packs but they seem to think it's the fuel filter.

Any thoughts?

To my understanding, you can't just change the fuel filter in this model as it's in the fuel tank.

On my y reg focus had the juddering at higher RPM's turned out the coil pack which everyone else is saying as well.

Coil-packs Very common! (But usually sets fault codes!)

Leads tracking down side of plugs Also very common, (doesn't usually set fault codes!)

Check for tracking marks on plug ceramics/inside plug lead ends

ALWAYS change leads whenever plugs are changed on Ford Zetec engines! They seem to be particularly vulnerable to lead failure after plug changes. Lead failure is typical shortly after plug changes if they are not. Damged plugs must aldso be

It is of course difficult to carry out reliable diagnostics "On Line" but these issues should be checked and eliminated before delving any deeper!

HTH

Typical "Computer says no!" response from a clueless spanner-monkey.

Anyone in the trade with half a brain cell would know this will more than likely be a coil pack issue.
