Hi Guys,

I’m hoping to be in a position to buy a second hand focus shortly (just waiting on the loan side of things). However, despite not even having bought a focus yet I’m already looking at what kit is going to be required so I can make sure I have the spare change to purchase it.

From reading around would I be correct to assume that both the front and back speakers in a focus are 5x7’s and as such can I just buy some 5x7 coax’s and do a straight swap? If that’s the case, will any adaptors be required?

Secondly I’m trying to find a reasonably decent headset, ideally with USB on the front so I can plug in a USB stick (seems to be a better idea than a MP3 CD!) however I cant find a headset that I particularly like the look of other than the JVC-KD-G722-USB which I can pick up for £110 – seems very cheap?

At this stage I have no intention on running the speakers off the amp so the headunit will need to be half decent to power the speakers. I’ve no real preference on the speakers providing they are 5x7’s (if that’s what fits) are half decent quality and handle bass half decently, I’m probably looking to spend about £150 for both the fronts and backs – looking at something along the lines of these at the moment: http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4660.html

Lastly I’m looking at sound deadening, I’ve never bothered till now but my current car (a Corsa) vibrates like hell and back even with crappy speakers in which has been annoying the hell out of me. I’ve seen that dynamat do a car door install which looks suitable but I’m not sure what to use at the back? Will the 10x10 sheets supplied for the door be enough to just ease things at the back a little too? Once again,. I’m not expecting perfection.

Any help / advice would be very much appreciated!

You don't really need sound deadening in the Focus. It's pretty well screwed together, and so you won't hear much in the way of rattling.

Thats a relief, the corsa is prtty much a tin can, the rattling does my head in!

Excellent.

This is my provisional shopping list for a budget audio setup, any comments/advice are welcome!

MP3 & USB support, hopefully it will have a feature to move volume between the speakers so I can turn down/off the rear speakers.
