When the engine is idling I am getting a hissing noise from somewhere in the red circle, it sounds like its coming from the end of the fuel rail, circled in green. It doesn't sound like an induction noise more of an air leak but I cant feel anything.

Have you noticed any performace increases/decreases at all?

On the Mondeo Zetec engines there is a T-Piece in this area joining 3 pipes. It is very common for one of the pipes to fall off, just push it back on.

I believe you can get a different style T-Piece that features Jubilee clips to ensure the problem doesn't persist.

I kind of hope this is the problem as it's an easy fix.

I've no experience of focuses, but I'd inspect all of the rubber pipework in that area, quite often if there is a rubber corner join that slips over one of the pipes it'll hiss if it is split (sometimes quite hard to spot). Be careful not to touch anything hot, but feel around the area for any air leaks, and gently squeeze/hold each pipe to see if the tone of the hissing changes. If you have something very light such as a piece of thin sellophane from packaging, you can also try moving that around the pipes to see any movement from air leaking.

Does sound like an air leak.

get yourself either a spray mist thing that they use at the hairdressers or you cant try it with a sponge.

Get a bucket and fill with a water/washing up liquid mixture, apply to the area, if any air is escaping it should make bubbles.

Ive used this technique and it does work, it just takes a bit of time to get it right!

OK guys I'll have a look for any split hoses. I've also noticed that my idle can be twitchy, do you think that has anything to do with it?

Mine makes the noise just after the engine has been switched off?

Ours does this too, never thought anything of it and it doesnt seem to have caused any problems.

Will check the pipes etc. when I next have the bonnet up though.
