My sister finally passed her test, and managed to snag a cheap £400 Focus MK1 1.6. Drives great, but the only "problem" is that the owner had lost the key fob, so only had the standard key.

A local dealer said it would cost roughly £180 for a new key to be provided and programmed etc, which immediately made my sister balk. Does this seem like a fair price to you guys ?

From what I can tell you need the fob, a blank key, that to be cut, and then for it all to be programmed for the car. I see online various suggestions that you need 2 keys in total to program it, and something about the immobilizer being coded to be deactivated too, but I'm not too certain on this stuff.

Anyone had this done before, with just 1 standard key ? And how much shouldthis cost (fairly) ?

Does the key you have have a little blue plastic bit on the top?

I have done one myself and it cost be 50 for the key to be cut and the fob included, i then programed it myself using the correct sequence ( http://passionford.com/forum/ford-focus/445869-focus-mk1-pats-new-key-programming-questions.html ).

The remote locking needs one key already working to program another, and the immobilizer needs 2 keys already working to program a new one.

I think with only having one key you have no choice but to pay up and get a garage to do it for you. :(
