Who's been in one? Drives one?

I've been reading a lot about them on the forums.
What sort of things do I need to look out for when buying one? Any major problems with them?

Also can they be lowered just on springs or do they really need dampers too ?

I don't mind modified one that are not running massive power, saves doing it myself and shouldn't be a problem if it is well looked after. There is a nice one on ebay at the moment.

Cheers

Had a look on there, ffoc has far too many forum catagories though.

I'm a bit spoilt with my Rover knowledge. lol. I know some cars, Merlins teg for example are fine on just lowering springs, where as others do really need matched dampers.

I fancy the Focus as its a very nice looking car, holds value well and in essence is very similar to what I have now. If it is as quick as my Rover with similar power I will more than happy. Nice to have some off the shelf bits too. Servicing aint that bad either it seems.

How heavy are they?

As for my Rover... Well it i probably worth 4-5k in bits. No way will someone give me that for a 160k (130 on clock) 12 year old Rover :(

Cheers guys, I like the focus and start a new job in september that will be a 9mile commute rather than the 75mile round trip I am doing now. I have kept the Rover as that sort of milage would kill a nice newish car.

I can't imagine the Focus being that different to my Rover, just better in handling and feedback department. My rover is stupidly fast in a straight line, has great brakes and handles well. Is also a similar size and a 3dr hatch. I would like a newer version of what I have now, but I can't and the Focus RS is a good alternative IMO.

At last track day I was pulling away from one easy until he decided to overtake in traffic and then spin. Was a shame as I would have liked to see how the two cars compared.

What's the point when you can get the ST for less and it's a better car?

RS looks nice and is a drivers car, also residuals on the Rs are very good
ST is just a Focus with a big engine, No LSD either and no limited edition, I quite like 'rare' cars. :)

Apparently there are different version of the bluefin too. GGR and SCC have some. Its hard work this reading about a new car lark after my Rover, I swear I could put mine together with my eyes shut now.

Brake prices aren't too bad now, £60 a disk from EBC and pads are £60-100 a set, from Ford the front pads . Rears are ok as they are same as the St170.

Go and buy this months Evo - has a buyers guide.
My mate has got that and is keeping it for me to look at.

£15k will get a 10k minter at the moment, value seems to being going up on them though

Awesome cheers.

Nothing really unexpected really, tyres sound like they last longer than on mine though lol. I must admit the only thing I don't like is the interior. Insurance was quoted as £900 FC. Not bad as it was the first company i tried(Tesco online, 24, 2 yr NCB )

Does it have to run on high octane? I assume the 212 is on 95Ron?
It certainly seems to have all the right bits, nice to know you confirmed what I have read: Gearboxs don't seem to have any problems.

Just noticed the edit John. Thanks for all that info, much appreciated.

There is a local guy on the ffoc forums who has offered to let me have a nose around and take me for a spin in his FRS. Hopefully it will make my Rover feel crap :D

Looking at the spec of the Rover I'd guess it will feel similar in a straight line. The twisties however........ :p
Yeah I am looking forward to seeing how it handles.

My Rover is very quick around corners but isn't anything special handling wise.

I get 350miles to a 45litre tank of UL :p Not that I will care with the Focus as my milage will massively reduce.

Why do people think dry weight even matters?

You are NEVER going to drive around with no fuel, no brake fluid, and no oil in the engine..

Its good as a comparison though and an easy figure to obtain for manufacturers

Lighter than I thought though :)

I want one, so buy one :)

Ok Boss :p

There was one in the car dealers near me a month ago, couldnt afford to think about one then. Was 14k and had 18" Superleggeras, I nearly crashed everytime I drove past it as I couldn't stop looking at it. :D

Great cars, I love 'em

However, I was hoping your next car would have uber JDM tyteness, yo. :(

Was thinking of an S2000 to supercharge but nah, only 2 seats too. So much choice out there though that's for sure!

Just broke an ignition lead on my rover trying to pull it off the plug, it must know

When was the first one sold and when did they sell the last one?

Would be nice to get one with warrenty but the latest one I have seen is a September 2003 car.

well good morning mr happy.

my point was that i don't think its worth spending that kind of money that will be a sidestep from his rover.

An Evo is hardly an upgrade though.

I want to waste some money :p

Im figuring re-sale value is probably a factor here?

15k focus is worth 13k in a year or so? Then its only another £27k to get to a GT3 :p
How do you know everything I'm thinking ?

Oh yeah .... :p

I really do see the FRS as a Rover turbo but improved. 4wd is for girls too :D
I ruled out an S2k and SC, so I don't think ill consider a Mx5 turbo. Need more than 2 seats aswell
