Took one for a spin yesterday and boy is it quick !

Not a notch on my mates Celica GT Four but still quicker than my Alfa 156 lol..

Now its a toss up between the Focus and the Civic Type R for me (although not tested the CTR yet)..

*goes off to find that ST vs CTR thread..*

Christ for a second I thought you were talking about the ST170 :p

I'd go for the Forcus plusly for the nice and lazy power. :)

It will be very different to the ST. Performance wise they are about the same but due to the rather different engine characteristics the ST will feel faster. Just remember, keep the CTR as close to the limiter as possible :D. The suspension on the CTR is a little harsher to btw.

Although the new CTR will be out next year sometime, if your after a new one it may be better waiting for that (there are lots of rumours out there but no one knows for sure what power output it will have, what body style etc).

Nothing wrong with the ST170 ;).

Friend of mine is looking for a new hot hatch at the moment and was ready to order a Golf GTi, but I pestered him into trying the Octavia before he signed the order.

Skoda dealer was most obliging and lent us one last week for a couple of hours. Technically its as good a car as the GTi, has more space and is considerably cheaper. However, on the way home we both agreed it just lacked a certain something - it seemed a bit souless in comparison and there wasn't quite the sense of occasion you get when sit in the GTi, and it wasn't quite as well finished.

He's still deliberating, but I suspect he will go for the Golf as that whats tugging the heart strings.

I wasn't too keen on the type R when I Tested one either. Yeah it was a nice car but the price premium over other motors that offered the same experiance just put me off.

If we are talking about image, I would go for the ST over the CTR. No offence to any owners, but I have started to notice that all the boy racers from a few years ago, who used to drive saxo VTR/S's have now upgraded to CTR's and have carried on their tradition of modding the car in a very untasteful style.

Type R and the ST are totally different cars imo, similarly priced, but thats about it.

The Type r is for the boy racer in you as it adores being revved, where as the focus has a totally different delivery, the engine note is meant to be a bit sexual with pops and bangs.

Mind im yet to try one, got one to test out next week.

The type r is a cracker but the dash is a bit low rent, and the steering lacks feel, but the engine more than makes up for that!

I think the Type R would be more my style of driving... but I have to say from what I've seen I think the ST is certainly looking like a fun good car. I might go back to driving a small hatch some time...

As for the ST170 - I found that so so dissapointing when I drove it. :/

Thing I found with the CTR was it was too hard, and I couldnt get on with the gear stick. It didn't seem that fast either, but that might have been me not revving it hard enough cos I'd got the dealer bloke sat next to me.....

The Octy vRS deffinately 'feels' better. Hard to explain, maybe it's cos it's bigger, and more comfy.

The rear suspension on the new model is inferior to the present type r so I wouldnt wait personally
