Focus TDCi Pinking Problem...

Hi all,

Hoping someone might be able to help or advise.

My cousin sister has a one year old Focus TDCi Sport (115)

It has an intermittent issue - Where the engine sounds like it's pinking....

It's been to Ford's twice - But everytime, they can't find nothing wrong.

Has anybody here experienced something like this?

Whats wrong with a derv sounding like its pinking? Its the principle it runs on.

All the Ford Diesels i have driven sound like they could fall apart at any moment. The current Fiesta i use daily and the odd use of a Focus (06/07 cars) both just sound horrible but havent missed a beat.

Is there any problems other than the noise ?

they are noisy things anyway, the injectors on some are coded ecu fired units that can fall out of tune and need to be reset but you would have noticed running issues by then.

other then that it sounds fairly normal....

I've got a 1800 tdci focus (56 plate) and its done 25k, not missed a beat. I think they are great cars, just a little noisy.

had this problem on a mondeo tdci, engine management light came on and ecu had a fault code. engine ran sluggish and sounded like a tractor. turned out injector number 4 needed replacing. was a dealer job cost my mate £420.

make sure you run some injector cleaner through it. AA guy said that diesle doesn;t lubricate injectors like petrol does. or something on those lines.
now that i think of it it may have been possible to remove the injector and use a toothbrush on it. bah?
