folder/file permissions problem

hi,

just reinstalled vista, i keep all my media and documents on a separate hdd so i can easily format windows hdd easily
usually works fine, but this time im having a problem

windows is telling me i dont have permission to use the folders and files... ive managed to sort out permissions for some folders, but when i comes to applying the permissions to the folders and files inside it brings up errors for everything saying it cannot do it?
i can sort the permissions if i go to each folder, but with 70gb of music you can see why this is a bit annoying... and time consuming


hopefully someone can tell me how i take back my folders/files from windows

Is the problem still there with UAC turned off?
