Hi all,

Recently i have been updating a few of the pc i have in my house, i removed a harddrive from one to use as a media hard drive for my living room.

I wanted to clean the whole drive before putting it in my new system so i knew nothing nasty could creep over to it *was used as an internet point before.

i deleted everything on there apart from one folder, keeps saying that i do not have permission to access the folder, but to my knowledge there was no user password/ admin password set up on the hdd.

im close to wiping the whole thing but theres a part of me that wants to check theres nothing on there i want to keep, pics of the family etc etc.

is there any way of getting in to the folder/s or shall i cut my losses and wipe it all ??

thanks

SG

Yeah just sounds like a folder you need to take ownership of as you've moved the disk between 2 PCs.

Then once you've taken ownership of the folder and checked it, you can then wipe the disk and carry on.

Are you using XP Home or XP Pro?

Microsoft said:
If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has Administrative rights to have access to the Security tab.

If you are using Windows XP Professional, you must disable Simple File Sharing. By default, Windows XP Professional uses Simple File sharing when it is not joined to a domain.
