Folder redirection gone a bit mental

Morning all, am hoping someone can shed some light on this.

Am in the process of building a new Citrix server setup with Windows 2008. i configured folder redirection for desktop, appdata etc to ensure most of the profile is retained. Using a test user account, it was all working well, and yesterday I spent some time getting the last of our apps installed.

The policy is configured to create a subfolder for each user under the path \\file1\xenapp\desktops - this works fine on the old 2003 server and it WAS working fine on the new box too.

However, now when I log in with a test user, I get an error that the recycle bin on MY desktop is corrupt. Event viewer shows:

Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Desktop" to "\\file1\xenapp\desktops\test user name\Desktop".
Redirection options=9211.
The following error occurred: "Failed to build the list of regular subfolders under "\\file1\xenapp\desktops\my name\Desktop"".
Error details: "Access is denied.
".

It looks like it's now trying to create the desktop as a subfolder of my desktop! As it's working on other servers, it's obviously a problem local to this machine. I've tried removing it and rejoining it to the domain, searching the registry for instances of myname\desktop with no luck. Even the shellfolders key in the registry for that user points to the right place.

Any ideas before I sod it and start again?
