Folder to PHP var (x/67829 -> x/id=67829)

How do you convert a folder to a PHP get variable? I know it's done in htaccess but my Googlefu is failing me.

As per the topic, to convert www.domain.com/x/67829 -> www.domain.com/x/?id=67829
