folder views changing

For a long time now i have been having a problem with my folders, where i set them to a specific view (like list, or medium icons), and come back later and suddenly its changed to something else. I put up with it at first but now i want to put a stop to it.

I'm running vista and i have no idea how to 'lock' the folder settings so that the view doesn't change by itself. So can anyone please tell me whats causing folders to change their display view, and how i can put a stop to it.

Haha I had the exact same problem and never managed to fix it. Well, I did, I installed Windows 7. Good luck though!

It's a well-known Vista "feature", and a royal pain in the proverbial.

No, me neither, which of course doesn't necessarily mean it has never happened to anyone else...

It's just one of the quirks. Touch wood at some point it stopped screwing around with folder views on all of my local drives (although it still occasionally finds folder on the network somewhere where it feels it's appropriate to list something like few hundred unix log files with Filename, Rating and Album in detailed listing fields. That's said both Vista 32 and 64 bit on my boxes in last 13 months pulls different view of a control panel every time you open new explorer window. It's like a "I'll surprise you" revolver, maybe it's large icons, maybe it's list, maybe it's a random toss of tiles.
