Folding-4x 8800GS on 650W PSU?

I'm thinking about putting together a dedicated folding rig to go in my shed as my GF isn't too happy about the fan noise at the moment. I could use some advice please.

The plan would be to get a MSI K9A2 Platinum Motherboard, use my 2 existing XFX 8800GS and later pick up another 2 to go with them.

I've currently got an Antec Earthwatts 650w PSU, and (using an energy monitor) 2 8800GS folding is using around 200w-250w. If I got molex adapters would I be able to power 4x 8800GS with this PSU?

It would be a very basic system, and once step up no monitor, optical drive, case or input devices. I seem to have a vague memory of someone saying someone on here had done something similar.

Thanks

Should be fine - the GS's don't use much lecky.

Only problem I can see is the 'old bill' may knock on your door and ask if your growing anything in the shed. (ariel heat photography) or some animals may take up residence

Good stuff, so long as they don't break my door down if I'm not there I don't mind! Yeah I'm a bit worried about spiders setting up home on the motherboard and shorting something out, I don't really want to get a case as then I'll have to cool it, I may just build a fine netting box around it or something.

Biffa had 4x9800GTs running from a Coolermaster 550W iirc. I would imagine it's fine, you have a bit more power than me and I barley push 480W at the wall (so around 400W actual load on the PSU) when folding on my Quadcore/2x GTX260, priming and furmark however pushes it up to around 570W :)

The shed is pretty secure and fairly empty at the moment I gave it a good clean out when I moved in, spotted what looked like some old mouse droppings but there doesn't seem to be any current activity (apart from lots of massive spiders , I will have good dust filters :) then). I'll keep an eye out for rats, I don't want them gnawing through any cables!

That was it, I knew I'd heard something like that before.

Ooh nice so folding in the shed i was gonna do this but don't need to now i'm just gonna wait till new GT300 series is out and benched for folding see what it's like then grab a pair. Hope they don't run too hot cos im building a lian li v351 in red with the EVGA board i got can't wait :).
I'm literally bouncing in wait for it.

Hope too see you documenting any build plans if you do go ahead.

Well all this upgrading is going to benefit team 10 :) Marine Iguana if you come to sell the 260s could you give me a shout? You going to put them under water, since it can be down it that case with a 120.2?

Well I saw that you would be flying past me in 1.7 months so I thought I'd better do something :p

Yes I'll make sure I get some pics up when I put it together. Looking forward to seeing what the GT300 series can do as well, not that I'll be getting any for a long while yet!

It's around 8K at the moment with 2 8800GS so I'd guess around 16K hopefully once I had all 4 slots on the board folding :D

Spot on verbal, it would be a cheap AMD cpu and I have no idea what they are like for folding, so would probably just underclock it a little and save on power.

There's a thread in the wanted section of the members' market in which I'm offering two XFX 8800GSs. The OP seems to be ignoring it so if you'd like to jump in and say you'll have them....
