Folding causes my GTX 295 to hit 114c

As title, got one of these on the cheap to plonk in my server however folding takes it up to (GPU1) 97c (GPU2) 114c :eek:

Is this even SAFE ?!?! How in the hell do I bring those temps down?

The case is super ventilated not much more I could do with it?!?

LOL it's a 295, what do you expect?

Edit: Apparently they are a little toasty, perhaps remove the heatsink and apply some new TIM

Indeed, I think this sucker will need cool labs ultra.

QUESTION what would be faster a duel core GTX 295 or a GTX 570 at folding ?

I guess one would run work one at a time and the 295 would do 2 work threads at a time.

As it is I fold by:

(1) Main 'work' pc that is on 12 hours a day when im working, CPU fold on 4 threads (i3770k) and on a 670 GPU and a 570 GPU (570 is also used for physx when needed)

(2) Server pc (xeon 1270) folds with 6 threads and now this 295........im thinking just swap the 295 for the 570 ???? what of the 2 cards would give more PPU when left on 24.7 ?

The 295 would be more than enough for Physx .......... and I could still fold on 1 GPU while the other GPU Phys'xs?

570 would give a lot more ppd than a 295, remove the plastic shroud and clean the heatsink aswell when you change the paste

14-16k on a 295 and 32-33K on a 570

But yes, some time with some compressed air and new TIM should sort out he cooling, at least down to maybe 80°C

Thanks for the facts Biffa, as it will be on 24/7 the 570 it is then, no brainer, espec as I have already added liquid ultra on the 570..........and runs 60 load now, thanks all.

Is it a good plan for the 295 as physx on 1 GPU and folding on the other then ?, 3 GPU system setup! :O madness,lol

I know nout about nvidia cards having never had one, but GTX 295 is a dual gpu card isn't it? My dual GPU cards have always run really hot and loud. My 6990s were 90C+ with the fans on max (they could he heard through 3 walls!!). Water cooling is the way forward
