This is a bit of a long shot, but I have seen how generous people are on here before with projects (Like the baby oil submersion one) and I figured I might as well ask.

Me and my business partner are currently setting up a large folding farm and haev managed to piece together an athlon 1.3ghz, athlon 1.0ghz, a celeron 500 and 2 celeron 400s. These are joined by our "Work Pcs" an am2 3800 and a 64 3500+.

Now, we would like to continue to extend this folding farm but are lacking funds to purchase any more parts. So I thought I would ask, if anyone has any parts they aren't using, anything at all that could be used in a folding pc (Most importantly, processors, motherboards, hard drives and network cards), would you consider sending it to us? We would have course pay for postage.

Now, not to be too picky but we would rather not take anything under 400mhz as even our 500 celeron takes nigh on two weeks to finish even simple work units.

So what do you say?

Thank you for the interest, and sarcastic comment. I'm not thinking Conroes, Im thinking that old Athlon that you've had stuffed in a box somewhere that might still work. Or that old P3 you havn't seen in years thats just at the back of a cupboard.

If people are worried that I am after free stuff to sell, I will send you pictures of your parts in action.

Thanks guys.

Impaler, indeed each one will and so far does have its own hard drive. They are all running windows 98 as we had a few old copies and we were given a load of old PCs in a disposal job by a company and they allowed us to use the keys that were still with the PCs they gave us as they no longer had use for them.

Lanz, you do know there is also a folding style client that calculates the effects of global warming? Either thats incredibly ironic, or PCs don't use up as much electricity as you think ;)

Plus you could say that about any super computer setup. During the making of Shrek 2, it took an entire room full of computers a few days to render each scene. Now I don't know about you, but I would consider medical research a lot more important than entertainment, and I don't see anyone complaining about our green ogre friend.

Ok seems like I have sparked off some nerves, so here goes:

1: We pay for electricity in a fixed some each month, so whether these PCs run or not my bill will be the same so I might as well.

2: Different team, my own.

3: Sell the parts. Name me someone who has need of the PCs I have mentioned in order to do something with them other than folding and I will gladly do it.

I fail to see how me leaving on a few PCs that would otherwise be thrown away is more of a waste than someone who plays games for eight hours a day with their crossfire/SLI setup. His/Her gaming benefits no one at all. This has the potential to help people.

Thanks for the generous offers to join OCUK people, but my team is gradually making its way up the boards. We are something like 1150 now and steadily climbing so I will stick with them thanks.

lol of course not, there are about 7 of us on this team. But its much more fun working with people I know and like than a load of unknowns.

Not too shabby then :p

Yes I am folding for XSReviews. However, again I have to say, even with the awesome arm twisting skills I am gonna stay with XSR. I want to build our forum up more and it will be cool to see our team grow as the forums do :)

Ps. 28th? How crazy is the folding setup of your number 1 guy?
