Can anyone help me setting my much idled PC to take part in the Folding projects?

Firstly, whats the difference between SETI/Folding/Einstein projects? I've just been reading loads of info on here about the projects but non the wiser as to which I'm best doing?

Secondly, can someone talk me through setting a project up so it is working well, is this just CPU power or GPU power too?

System specs are in sig if it helps....

Cheers

Hey Chris

For folding, there's lots of info in the sticky here:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18204220

The easiest way to get folding is to use the fah tracker:
http://fahtracker.com/

Folding simulates protein folding which helps medical research.

Other projects use a program called BOINC, seti looks for alien signals, einstein is something to do with gravity I think, CPDN is climate prediction research, rosetta is protien folding, the list of projects you can run on boinc is very long but they are all run from the same boinc software.

Try downloading the folding tracker or boinc and see how you go, they are both pretty straight forward to set up, with both you can choose how much cpu or gpu you use. If you get stuck just post here and me or someone else will help :)

Cheers dekez,

One problem so far, everytime I try download the BOINC setup nothing downloads apart from a 0kb file in my downloads folder. Obviously when I try run that file nothing happens...

Strange......

Good stuff, if you go to setup, configure, and click on the client settings tab, you will need to input here your username and team number.

Username just make up whatever you want, the team number for OcUK is 10. The pass key and EOC ID I wouldn't worry about for the moment but if you get into it you can add those in later.

On the client settings tab you can enable / disable gpu and cpu, as well as chose how many cores you want to use. I would keep an eye on your CPU and GPU temps for the first couple of hours as folding stresses them as much as anything, and it's likely to get quite hot, although everything is looking good at the moment. Also you will find out if you overclock is truely stable :p.

Just noticed you have set up your team and username, welcome to the team ChrisGTL! :)

You can check your stats here:

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/

You should appear over the next couple of days, and every Thursday we have a team news thread on here where you can check your progress for the week.
