Well i have just started f@h again after a month of frustrating time getting a stable GPU client but it just threw this up at me and i have very limited knowledge, and was wondering what the hell it means

Project: 5746 (Run 2, Clone 27, Gen 249)

[21:40:26] CoreStatus = FFFFFFF6 (-10)
[21:40:26] Client-core communications error: ERROR 0xfffffff6
[21:40:26] This is a sign of more serious problems, shutting down.

that is what it came up with on the ATI client but my other client is ok, so just a problem with the WU or something else.

Edit: Been doing some investigating and it seems that both clients are working on one core even though i have the correct flags setup, would this be the cause to this error i received i only noticed this when i was down to about 3k PPD when i know its nearer 6k.
I am on win 7 and these are the flags im using are these correct or do they not work on win 7

E:\GPU1\[email protected] -gpu 0
E:\GPU2\[email protected] -forcegpu ati_r700 -gpu 1

Why have you set the forcegpu on only one shortcut, and I know the X2 is technically a single card, but do you still need to extend the desktop and use a dummy plug?

Cheers guys completely forgot to look there such as noob am i, Everything i have done is now working just the ol Folding@home Core Shutdown: UNSTABLE_MACHINE issue to get around now. I really can't wait to get rid of this card now it's just a nightmare. i am definitely going to get two 9800gx2's now my mind is made up then its getting used to a nvidia setup haven't had a nvidia card for about 5 years :o

Having done both Ati and Nvidia folding I didn't find one easier than the other. The only thing you get with Nvidia is better PPD for now, which is a good thing no doubt about it, but its not that much easier or less problematic.

Really ?, i still would like to change my setup about half of all WU's i get fail with stupid unstable machine. Thats why i stopped folding but thought I'd try again silly me but i want more power the X2 is a bit rubbish really and i know my system can handle power hungry cards so i might aswell do it sell my X2 and get something more suitable for the job. I don't pay for the leccy so i'll abuse it while i can :D

So what card's would you recommend from the land of green ? for about £400

GTX260s and the GTS250s are, at least in my opinion, the best bang for buck cards, but without an SLI motherboard you may struggle in games (although i imagine a GTX260 is enough for most). There is the GTX295, which has an amazing output, but its still quite expensive when you consider the cost of two GTX260s separately.

I have a GTX280 - its pretty good points wise, although the GTX260 almost matches this card in terms of output. The GTX285 is again a good card, but expensive and power hungry when compared to the GTX260 (at least for folding - not sure how much better it is for gaming).

So 2 GTX 260's it may be just been looking at the ASUS Top Edition might have to get two in a few weeks I'm not that much of a gamer anymore got the PS3 for that, just want some peace as the X2 is really not silent when folding. And ill be able to SLI once i make the slow move to i7 and maybe throw in another one for good measure :D

Get a GTX295 since then you'll have equal gaming power, but far more PPD then your current setup :) Especially since you don't have SLI mobo so you can only a single card for gaming.
