Back over 1mil PDD, nice going guys, I expect the competition will bring a few new members as well, so welcome to you all :) If you are folding on a single rig let me know and I will add you to the single machine league.

If you've not seen it yet Mr ToxicTbag has arranged an incredible community competition - see here for details. There are loads of prizes to be won :D and anyone who is a member of, or joins up to one of the OcUK distributed computing teams can enter

Congrats to all the tiffy winners, notably AHameed on 5mil, Brown_Sparrow with 10mil, and Biffa on 90mil - not long before 100mil!

As for me my upgrade to sandybridge went well, it was crunching away a 4.8 stable on 1.4 volts but the temps were getting a bit high so I've dropped back to 4.6. I think I have a problem either with my block or the flow rate in the loop as it should be running cooler than it is (70-75) given that the Q6600 was a much hotter chip and never went much above 60  So probably I need to reseat the block but the temps are ok for the moment.

I started running the standard SMP client on it but the PPD took a massive hit when running 2 460s as well, so I've switched it back to boinc as the rig isn't on all the time to run bigadv. It is nice to have the option there though if there is any threat of stompage :D

Back in the saddle, been in Turkey for two weeks, darkmatter has been erratic at best in its new home with it turning itself off every day, hence the downturn in output.

Not sure if I can hold Mr BaBa off before he blows past but I'll give it a go as long as I can, can't have him top of the league in every category can we! :p

dekez: I really advise using -smp 7 and assigning a HT core to the gpu's also using VMware for the bigadv can claw back the extra ppd lost from the lost core. Everyones setup is unique, you might get away with just assigning the priority of the cpu to be higher than the GPUs but for me that hasn't worked so well with more than one GPU.

Slid off the radar a bit as my machine was down while I was on holiday. To make up for it I've got a 2600K folding alongside my main machine for a few days.

Just need now to convince my boss to allow me to fold on the other 31 sandybridge machines we just received :p

It's a shame the OSX client still hasn't been updated too. Have a mac pro sitting pretty redundant at the moment.

Cheers Biffa will give that ago, whole thing has just crashed now though after a windows update :(, 3rd time this has happened this month, don't know what is going on with the updates.

Ahh.. ok darkmatter seems to be stable again, no idea why, maybe the cooler weather, although I haven't seen the cpu's go over 52°C so... maybe its the PSU.

Few bigbeta's helped me squeak ahead of BaBa again, hopefully I can put some distance between us before he goes rabid on the 16 core Opterons when they come out.

Oh BTW if anyone is interested, I've managed to get Virtualbox running Linux folding@home with BFS on my 12 thread 970X and am running bigbeta on it for around 75K PPD so I've stopped all GPU folding on that box for now :D

You do need at least a 12 thread core really although some teams seem to be finding a way around that I haven't tried that.

Yes that's the thread, although there is some consternation in the Stanford forums old guard that it is tantamount to cheating  given the amount of time it takes for a bigbeta Wu you also stand the chance of losing a lot of points if you lose the unit or you come in over the deadline. All I know is its hairy enough doing it on machines designed for the task, even the 970 only just scrapes by really.

I guess what I'm saying is good luck, but I'm not responsible for anything :p

No worries I manage to break things fine by myself anyway :p (other rig is working again now, stupid SSD ) It's always tempting to give new things a go :)

I've been meaning to set up a VM on the rig for a while, still running bigadv in windows from when I was having problems with the notfred image before.

As far as the cheating aspect goes, as long as you return the work unit within the deadline time I don't see the problem really, so long as is isn't damaging the science which as far as I can see it isn't. But obviously if it didn't work / wasted units I would stop.

I've got it set up, very good guide that, I would follow it just for the vmware and langouste set up alone. I've picked up a standard SMP unit (karma for bending the rules? :p) which is running at the moment fine (27K ppd), hopefully I'll pick up something more interesting later.

edit - not karma - failing to adjust the standard vm memory - bigadv 6900 now running - 41k ppd
