Yesterdays news!

thanks for the news. my 7970 is dying right now. its crashing all the time and artifacting even though its underclocked and undervolted :(

Foldy news and a 175million tiffy for me :D

Question is whether I can reach 200million before fah retire bigadv by end January making my 4P cruncher redundant?

What happens if you put everything to stock? You could easily have set up something that is unstable.

Thanks for the news. Low output from me as I was helping with the skynet challenge. Got mine back folding with a "small" addition. More points incoming! :D

Well 970's are awesome if you need to upgrade my 970 rig is posting 417k PPD against my 780ti tig at 324K PPD but there are some variables of course.

The heat in the room where I run both machines is a bit much though might have to relocate one. ;)

Got myself a GTX 980 to replace my GTX 680. Didn't fold with the 680 because the cooler was noisy, not exactly fun when PC is at the end of your bed

Currently got the 980 at 1473 core, 7850 memory. Fan is at 41% auto speed and just 60 degrees. Virtually silent :D

That gives 42k PPD from the 4930k @ 4.4Ghz and 338k PPD from the GPU :D

it hardlocks at stock. i'm running it at 925/1205 on 1.2v. stock is 1150/1500 1.256v. its sort of working, but its does stop every now and then and its still artifacting a bit.

Well, my spell as top producer while resources were on Skynet was short but satisfying :)

I had my CPUs on the Skynet challenge and then briefly back on Folding. I've now switched them over to WCG for the challenge starting in a few days time. Still Folding on the GPUs so will stay near the top for now.

Just goes to show the advantage of newer hardware. My 690s produce about 85-90k per core so, my main rig with two 690s is gettting about the same as one of the newer 9xx series cards (using a damn sight more power too :(). I wish I could afford to upgrade but it'll be a few months before I could even consider it. Even then, I'd have difficulty justifying the initial outlay (I know the leccy savings would benefit in the long run but it's a bit much up-front for my current financial situation).

Outlay shouldn't be too bad if you sell the 690s

Quoted for truth. Considering a pair of 970's will thrash a 980 for not that much more money they're worth it :)

Been tinkering with my 980 a bit. Taken it out of my gaming PC as it's excessively overkill for my needs right now, gone back to using my GTX 680 to game on.

Core 17 WUs only use about 90% of the GPU power. Managed to complete a WU with 1550Mhz on the core producing just under 400k PPD from a single card. Sadly Core 15 WUs use 99% and EUE within seconds at that speed.

Since the memory controller is only at 30% load the memory clocks don't budge from 6ghz no matter how far they're pushed. So far it's 100% stable on both core types at 1486 core 6010 memory.

Reading up on the power consumption of these cards, I'm confident I could run a pair of 970's off a 750w PSU if I removed the CPU clock and stopped folding on it (it's only producing 15k PPD so what's the point really)
