Can people post there benchmarks how long it takes do a WU ( Work Unit ). Will be intresting to see how the PS3 compares to this.

Should be getting one tommorow so it would be good to see how powerful cell really is.

EDIT: Just found out a WU can be any number of frames so you would need a protein with a similar amount in order to compare.

I know this isnt exactly what you wanted but

When I watched the review on Gamespot and they had some guy who developed the PS3 version, he said he expects there to be people in the top 100 using PS3's in the first few of weeks

So if it can break in the top 100 that quickly and overtake PC users, it must be a hell of a lot quicker

Which you'd expect with the Cell chip

lol! The most pointless thing ever!!!!!!! Lets buy an expensive PC and just fold@home. May as well buy ya self a nice new car and just leave it revving its knackers off outside :p

I guess that's the whole point why the PS3 could be very interesting to folders - it would basically act as a cheap but very powerful PC. It will be interesting to see how it performs.

Couldn't that just be people who were already in the top 100 (or thereabouts) who have purchased a PS3?

I doubt someone with just a ps3 could come close to the top 100, who normally have many many systems dedicated to folding.

Unless they meant in daily production as opposed to total points gained.

Still, though, someone with a hundred P4 or above computers folding is likely to be completing more units a day than a single PS3.

Anyone know if F&H can utilise several of the cell's cores, processing multiple units at once?

Is the PS3 folding@home written to make use of all the Cell's SPE's? Or does it just utilise the single PowerPC core?
It's written to take advantage of the SPEs as vector processors using similar code to the code used in the GPU client.
