Sorry for the later than normal news guys - been a bit of a mare of a day in chez-99million

Some of you may have heard about the competition between BillytheImpaler and dunc to battle head-to-head with their Xeons - linky
You may also have seen the Battle Names thread which brings me to the matter in hand.

It is my honour to announce the Battle Names for the upcoming Xeon slug-out...

edited for underscoreyness

may it be a clean and noble fight and may the best beast reign victorious! :D

Woohoo, I won the name competition \o/ which high-production beast do I get the output from then Rich? :D
well it's pretty much a Xeon except for the fact it's a single-core single-cpu machine and it's not Intel :p

I'm afraid it's nothing more than an XP1700+ overclocked to 2200MHz but it's running 24/7 and should hopefully chuck out 1200 points during the week :)

geez I really am overdue for an upgrade  :D

well the good thing about having such a lame machine is that I can afford several other slightly more lame machines, the loft is all boarded out for storage now and the missus has ok'd me to put a machine up there :)

only an XP1900 which I've just got the last couple of bits for (you gotta love the MM for bargainous spares) but as you already said every little helps - plus I'll have the extra incentive to get it sorted out this weekend now :D

unlucky joe :(

but yes as Mattus says if you end the actual console rather than core it shouldn't mess your WU up
alternatively if it's set up as a service you can use the windows services manager to start, stop, or even pause the folding service - that would be my preferred method of stopping the client

yeah good point - and yep that's in Billy's how to

i'm sure some people wouldn't like the batch files sitting on their desktop but then if you're doing a lot of messing about with the system it may be the perfect solution

blimey that's some serious power joining the fold

i've just finished sorting out the rest of the boarding in the loft and now got power sockets and cat5 up there :D
it won't be a huge operation but i'm sure i can squeeze a machine or two up there without burning the place down :p
also just got myself a CM Stacker today - the current rig is going to look dwarfed in there so it'd be rude not to sort out a tasty upgrade now i have the room for it :)

Kyzia - sounds like you've got stuck on a particular server so rather than getting a nice assortment you're getting the same horrible ones over and over

as Billy has said try changing your settings a bit, maybe even select deadlineless WUs for one turn so that when you change it back you have a chance of getting a different server

in fact are you sure you haven't selected deadlineless work by mistake - the projects you have mentioned are the new deadlineless Gromacs WUs which should only really be given to your client if no other work is available (or if you've selected deadlineless or no-preference in the advanced settings)

edit: when it asks Request work units without deadlines? make sure you have answered no

...and one 404 pointer (not good PPD :( ).
is that a p2107?

if so then that's odd cos my Dad's old XP1900+ has got one and it's pulling over 170ppd, not much by A64 standards but for his rig that's pretty impressive
most WUs seem to get him around 100-130 ppd so 170 is quite a boost :o
