Folding performance of ATI cards

Hi all,

I am currently looking for a reasonably fast but cheapish card to go in my parents pc which can will primarily be used for folding.

Given that my two pcs folding currently are using Nvidia cards I though they would be the best way to go however I was wondering how the current crop of ATI cards (specifically the HD4650/70) manage when it comes to folding.

Does anyone know of a table showing relative PPD for these cards compared to Nvidia cards or a link to some performance tables. All I can find on google is gaming performance links.

Cheers
Owen

Nvidia cards for folding, lot faster than ATi's at present.

Source?

I have read that ATI cards arn't as good although I have seen no real figures to back it up.

The problem is in my price range the 8600GT/9500GT is roughly all I can get however I have noticed that the HD4650 is available for roughly the same price.

The main problem I have is I havn't seen folding performance compared on either card.

I have read (on one link) that the HD4670 folds roughly equal to the HD3850 however this is useless given the link gave no indication of the HD3850 performance :o

EDIT: Done a bit of digging and found out that the 8600GT manages roughly 2000ppd. Does anyone have any figures (or a link to the figures) for the ATI cards?

EDIT2: Done further digging and it appears that the HD4670 when *tweaked - whatever that means* can manage ~ 2000ppd although the results were very fuzzy.

Argh I am confused now.

46xx cards don't fold at all at the moment. I have a thread about it in the distributed computing forum.

8600GTS gives about 1800PPD but I couldn't get mine stable. This is probably the best vfm around and is good for at least 4500PPD but you do need a deep case to fit it in. I paid almost twice as much for a 9800GTX+ and only get 1500PPD more.

About 3500 then based on getting a work unit done ever 3 hours 30 minutes and about 550 points per work unit. Of course, that only works if I leave it on 24/7. That's on a 4850

Thanks for the replies.

The 8800GT 256mb looks to be a great buy (I hadn't seen that one).

It should get roughly the same PPD as my 8800mGTX in my laptop which is roughly 4k a day.

Now all I have to compare is performance per watt.
