Boinc WUs have deadlines as does folding, the deadline differs from WU and project.
Essentially these days most DC projects seek to avoid stashing, they want the results, or equally to know you won't be submitting so they can reissue. Ultimately speed is important to most projects so they can check results and move on.
With Boinc most projects compare results from at least three clients so any stashers delay others getting their credit. You can also compromise your own credit if you delay and others have set the average but your machines claim was higher (based on your CPU etc).
The days of hoarding, and thus massive dumping to confound your fellow team mates have been surpassed by technology.
