In short Folding@Home is a worldwide research project run by Stanford University scientists. These scientists are looking to learn things about how proteins interact in the human body, especially in the ways that it relates to illnesses like cancer, Parkinson's, CJD, and others. Computer users around the world run a small program that uses all available idle CPU cycles to process virtual models of protein interaction. its basically a way of making your cpu run at 100% constantly and therefore increasing your electricity bill
