Had my worries explained to my satisfaction by the Supplier, promptly and in detail.

Ach, most folk change their CPU in a year anyway!
And if its gonna break it'll break in the first week.

It was just the markings on the heatspreader that made me think the chip was a return.

It wasn't - just something that happens in transit.

The markings are were Intel tested the chip, my Q6600, E6600, E6300 & 2180 all had / have these marks. :)

LOL only 3 :D, Q6600 main frame, E6300 HTPC and 2180 as spare PC.
Sold E6600 to upgrade to the Quad core.

Strange, installed CPU tonight all looks ok.
Till I ran CPU-Z...

can you guys confirm I have a G0 stepping?

Can't see CPU-Z image but it should show stepping B, Revision G0.

Edit - Managed to see try using CPU-Z 1.40 or the latest one.
