'following' on facebook

Useful for the creative industry...things like blogging, acting, music and so on.

It's not stalking. It's social networking. Those people don't have to allow you to "follow them". I believe it can be disabled?

I thought the whole point of Facebook was stalking? Going by the movie (we all know how realistic they are) it was originally conceived of for stalking.

All friends are followed, unless you find them annoying but for some reason you can't/don't want to unfriend them, then you can just unfollow them.

Follow by itself is more for pages. Facebook is more of a news feed for me, so I follow f1 , space, science, technology, food companies etc.

It makes Facebook a bit more twitter like, in that read updates from organisations and famous people without them necessarily reading updates from you.

Facebook trying to get into what G+ and twitter have. Everything I say on G+ is public, I mostly use it for the tech (3d printing) communities.

My Facebook is only for people I know, and occasionally to sneak a look at someone's Interested in/relationship status... so stalking.

I know that social networking means Facebook, Twitter, Myspace etc, but what does social media mean? Is it just a buzzword that means the same?

Media where content is created by users, rather than the traditional paradigm of having the media generate content for the users.

I would guess, anyway. I'm not a soulless marketing shill. ;)
