Font weight too light in Chrome (Roboto?)

A few of my colleagues are having issues whereby some fonts are too light in Chrome, for example on YouTube and other Google services. I don't know if it's purely the Roboto font but it seems to be. A screenshot of one of the effected pages below which is from Roboto's download page (https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Roboto - I was trying to fix it by downloading locally... no luck).

Any ideas? Thanks.

I remember seeing this issue a couple of years ago because I had Roboto installed locally. Removed it from Windows and that fixed it for me.
