Fonts (why do they look like they do?)

OSX Anti-aliases its fonts. Much like Windows XP with cleartype turned on. Unfortunately there's no way of turning it off. You can however set the threashold at which it wont do it to like size 32, so only fonts over that will be anti-aliased. You can do it in the appearance settings in System Preferences.
 
Is this why fonts in Linux appear fuzzy too? Is there a way to turn it off in there?

That only goes as high as 12 doesn't it? Anyways, I don't know why anyone would want it turned off.
