Looking to get a set of food orientated gifts, and having failed miserably at finding a selection to form a nice hamper, I'm thinking of a couple of "treat" subscriptions instead. The savoury choice candidate is Graze without much thinking, but I was going to get a chocolate one too. The only reputable firm I know of is Hotel Chocolat, which costs the earth.

Any experiences out there, either positive or negative, or alternative suggestions to my approach?

Cheers!

And therein lies your problem. If you want the good stuff, it's going to cost you.

I know a few people who use The Chocolate Tasting Club and they really do rate the chocolates. But guess who is behind them? Yup, Hotel Chocolat. And it's the usual 'Brittania Music' style of scheme where you have to opt out of receiving boxes, rather than opt in.

So, onto the others. These guys are pretty good as well, but it's hugely expensive and not as varied or consistent in quality as Hotel Chocolat's offerings.

Montezuma's is great chocolate, but expensive and can be limited to slabs of the stuff rather than individual chocolates. And Tasting Boutique can be ridiculously expensive.

There are also various other smaller enterprises who don't really offer the variety or ease of use of the Hotel Chocolat scheme, which is why for me HC are the best of the bunch. And you can always play the 'introductory offer' game and keep cancelling and rejoining.
